Two receivers on the SAME side form the core: the inside receiver runs a Seam (vertical clear, 14+ yds) to occupy the deep safety, while the outside receiver runs a DEEP DIG at 14-16 yds into the void the seam created. Modern NFL shot play — the seam pulls the safety, the dig hits the soft spot behind the LB and in front of the safety's vacated zone. Best vs single-high coverage.

reads Spread Doubles Right: take the open window — work the progression below in order.
Progression:
15-yd seam — clear the deep safety; throw if the corner gives a soft shoulder.
14-yd dig — secondary — work behind the underneath defender's drop.
15-yd go — clear the deep safety; throw if the corner gives a soft shoulder.
4-yd flat — low element of the high-low — the throw if the curl defender drops.
6-yd sit — settle in the underneath window — keep eyes on the QB.
When to call it
Modern shot play vs single-high coverage — the seam pulls the safety, the dig hits the soft spot the safety vacated. Best on 1st-and-10 or 2nd-and-medium when you've seen Cover 1 or Cover 3.
When not to use
Avoid Dagger against quarters or Tampa-style coverage that can cap the seam while carrying the dig underneath, and against pressure that prevents the deep dig from reaching its landmark. It is a developing shot concept, not a quick-game answer from the shadow of your own goal line.
How to adjust for situations
Hold the middle safety with the Seam before hitching to the Dig. Vs Cover 3, aim the Dig behind the hook defenders and in front of the free safety; vs man, give the Dig room with a reduced split and a clean outside release. Add a check-down when the defense shows pressure and shorten both routes together on smaller fields.
Common mistakes
Seam not aggressive enough; should force the safety to declare or commit.
Dig too shallow — settle at 14-16 yards in the soft spot, not 10.
QB throws the dig before the seam clears the safety; sequence matters.
Strong / weak against
Strong against
Cover 3 — The flats — four underneath defenders can't cover all five underneath zones (curl-flat / slant-flat)
