All five offensive players begin in one centerline column: C on the line, QB in shotgun, then X, Y, and Z stacked behind. After the snap, C stems vertically and breaks on a post to the left; X works an intermediate out to the right; Y works an intermediate out to the left; and Z pushes vertically before settling on a hitch. The stacked launch points hide which eligible is releasing to each side and create traffic that helps the paired outs uncover without inventing a spread alignment.

When to call it
Use when man defenders are trying to sort the I-stack or when a zone defense is conceding the intermediate sidelines. The post holds the middle defender while the two outs stretch opposite flats, and the hitch gives the QB a controlled answer underneath.
When not to use
Avoid it when the rush reaches the quarterback before the intermediate outs can declare or when the defense is sitting in hard outside leverage with the middle post bracketed. The routes need enough time and width to separate from the stack.
How to adjust for situations
Against tight man coverage, coach stack-release rules so the trailing players do not run through the lead player's hip. Against zone, settle Z's hitch in the first open window and let the QB work post-to-out-to-hitch based on the middle and flat defenders.
Common mistakes
- Widening X or Z before the snap. The disguise comes from the full C-QB-X-Y-Z centerline stack.
- Letting the paired outs break at the same instant and depth, which creates a collision in the release column. Preserve the stagger created by the players' starting depths.
- Turning C's post into a vertical go. The inside break is what occupies the middle defender and creates room for both outs.
