Empty

Empty removes the backfield player and distributes every eligible receiver across the line of scrimmage. In 5v5 flag that means three receivers spread around the eligible center; in larger formats it becomes the familiar 5-wide presentation. The horizontal stretch forces the defense to declare leverage and gives quick-game routes such as slants, hitches, and speed outs room to win immediately. The tradeoff is protection: with no back to help, the quarterback must identify pressure and deliver on time.
