Spread
Formationbasicspreadbalanced
Umbrella term — NOT a single fixed look. Modern Spread = QB in shotgun, 0-1 backs in the backfield, and eligible receivers distributed across the field. In USA Football's 6v6 Spread Right shell, 2 receivers align right, 1 receiver aligns left, and the back offsets left, opposite the called strength. Larger-roster variants commonly use Spread Doubles (2x2, 1 back), Spread Trips (3x1, 1 back), or Spread Empty (5 wide, 0 backs). The point is to force the defense to declare and spread defenders thin, then attack with quick game, RPOs, or one-on-one matchups.
