Sweep· 6v6 Flag

basicaka Outside Sweepaka Toss Sweep

Wide perimeter run — back takes the exchange and attacks the edge.

The design

How Sweep works

Wide perimeter run.
QB hands to the back, who attacks the edge with the blockers pulling or reaching playside (tackle: classic two-guard pull on Packers Sweep; flag: receivers run vertical clears to pull defenders OFF the perimeter since blocking isn't legal).
The back's footwork is patient-then-fast: read the kick-out (or in flag, the leverage of the contain defender), then turn vertical when the outside lane opens.
Best vs over-aligned interior fronts where the perimeter is light.

Game plan

In flag, the perimeter receivers' vertical clears must pull the contain defender off the alley since blocking is illegal.

Cover 0: Anything that develops slowly — pressure gets home first Better answers: Four Verticals, Mesh, Slant-Flat, Smash
Cover 1: Outside vertical shots — the free safety caps them over the top Better answers: Mesh, Drive, Smash, Y-Cross, Four Verticals, Levels
Cover 2: The flats — the corner squats and jumps anything quick outside Better answers: Smash, Four Verticals, Flood
Tampa 2: The deep middle — the Mike runs it, so a straight seam is contested (unlike base Cover 2) Better answers: Smash, Flood
Cover 3: Deep outside — the three-deep shell caps outside verticals Better answers: Curl-Flat, Slant-Flat, Smash, Flood, Four Verticals, Snag, Dagger, Stick
Cover 4: Deep shots — four deep defenders make it very hard to win over the top Better answers: Stick, Snag, Slant-Flat, Curl-Flat, Mesh

Troubleshooting

Don't call it into a disciplined contain / hard-edge defender who stays home — the perimeter is capped before the back can turn upfield.
In flag it stalls when the rush contain player doesn't chase the mesh action.
RB cuts up too early; should press the edge first to force the corner to commit, THEN turn vertical.
Pulling blocker gets caught on the LOS (tackle); needs a clean pull around with no hesitation.
Perimeter receivers don't pull coverage away — in tackle they stalk-block the corner; in flag they need to run a deep clear or inside route so the edge isn't crowded.
