Split Back

The quarterback aligns in shotgun, two backs sit side-by-side at equal depth behind the quarterback, and the lone receiver aligns on the called side of the center. Right and Left name the receiver side; the backfield mirrors with it. The balanced two-back picture supports crossing handoffs, Lead/Trail action, end-arounds, reverses, boots, and quick passes without changing the pre-snap shell.
