The quarterback aligns in shotgun, one running back aligns beside the quarterback on the called side, and one receiver aligns on each side of the center. Strong Right puts the back to the quarterback's right; Strong Left mirrors it. The balanced receiver shell makes the backfield alignment the defense's key, which sets up reverse fakes, boots, choice routes, and the actual reverse from the same look. Distinct from tackle Strong I: this is a five-player flag formation with no fullback stack or offensive line.
